Some things I brought back from my trip to Taiwan
Well, chances are you can get them in the US too if you like them!
If there is one thing to know about me, is I love going back to Taiwan.
Last Christmas officially marked my 5th year in the United States of Anxiety and for some reason, I’ve only ever been back a handful of times, tickets are expensive ya know.
However in April, I got to sneak back home while working on U.S hours: 8 pm - 4 am, and despite me destroying my liver by also partying on the weekends till 3 in the morning and attending 2 weddings in the span of 30 days, I indeed snatched a few goodies to enrich my life here in Dallas Texas!
I even caught a bouquet but not that will ever help me lol.
So here are a few things that I’ve been thoroughly enjoying and found a way to secure them back to my little studio! + a few things I’ve been loving!
Thrifted Snoopy crop jean jacket
This is an unexpected gem from this trip. Back when I was a piece of college turd, I was really into thrifting and spent most of my weekends in markets and little stores. Call it fate, I snatched this dirty little jacket for $15 and have never worn it ever, it smelled moldy, with this super weird crop cut. Little did I know I would be returning to it years later and showing off my jean booty and living my biker (?) slut realness with it.
Garetti two-in-one iron/steamer
I live in a pretty tight space with a crap ton of shirts in my rotation. I can’t dedicate a full ironing board or space for my shirts so I found this compact 2 in 1 ironing maching to make my life easier. Still wish my mom could do it for me though.
Dragon Quest slime pepper grinder
It’s colorful, it’s stupid and fully functional!
Soac 54 Taiwanese cuisine cookbook
Tapping back to my roots by cooking more Taiwanese food in 2023 is my goal. I already know a few dishes but having an actual encyclopedia that is well-photographed and not too tech-heavy is a great addition to my kitchen world.
Popeye city boy cooking and Living Special edition
One perk of being colonized and three hours away from Japan is you do have pretty decent access to every one of their publication even the archival ones. I have no idea when these were published but damn it’s nice to have issues purely dedicated to one theme eh?
Aaabei official art collection
Aaabei is an artist I’ve admired and loved from afar for quite some time, but I could never justify $30 worth of international shipping for a few cups and a damn pin. So on this trip I vow to make space and carry these bad boys home no matter how much it damaged my ribs and legs.
Human Made X Blue bottle collab coffee mug
A Blue bottle mug, again., this time with a little heart that no one will say wow but me! l
Find your own seamstress or tailor
This is a new thing I’ve added to my routine. I had this dry cleaning/repair/altering place across the street from my place, bottom line: They have a sewing machine. Now I know the world is obsessed with cropping their shirt for fun now but for a 5ft5 fat fuck most clothes are too long but me and everyone out there (don’t lie) can’t hem shit to save our own lives. So guys, find a place with a sewing machine and beg/pay them to alter your stuff. Stop putting that ill-fitted T-shirt on the bench just cause it’s too long. You got this boo.
Tell your parents you love them and be a menace to the family
I mean, every day is one less day with them so quit acting and show them just how crazy you are eh?
It’s 2023 and I am still a hand written note taker, my sausage link fingers never seem to type fast enough, not that I write fast either. This mechanical pencil uses a rotating mechanism to ensure even lines everytime you write your goofy little thoughts!
If you are in between sunshine happiness and clinical depression this might be a book for you, just know that you might get called out and have to put the book down to take a deep breath. Each chapter is a brilliant yet brutal therapy session with her own therapy notes. Written in actual conversation form so you’ll flip through this pretty fast, and hopefully left it more profound and more understanding of yourself.
Hamburger coaster
I am a huge coaster collector, from basic ass target set to this hamburger thingy. I don’t know why and I rarely get enough guests to justify having more than one.
Thank you all for reading and not giving up on this little project! More entries to come so LFG! Happy Monday :)
